Development and Validation of a Prognostic Model for Persistent Hypoparathyroidism After Total or Completion Thyroidectomy

This study developed and validated a prognostic model to predict the risk of persistent hypoparathyroidism following total or completion thyroid surgery. The model uses clinical parameters such as changes in parathyroid hormone (PTH) and calcium levels, as well as the identification of a parathyroid gland during surgery. It provides clinicians with a tool to quickly assess the risk of persistent hypoparathyroidism, enabling personalized care and potentially preventing unnecessary hospital readmissions.

The model is available through an online calculator: https://erasmusmcpublichealth.shinyapps.io/Hypoparathyroidism/
